Here are some answers to frequently asked questions:
Furnished rooms and apartments
Dalarna University and Tunabyggen have an agreement so all international students can rent furnished rooms/apartments. Unfurnished housing is not available to international students.
When to apply for housing?
We encourage you to fill out the application on our website to begin the process of applying for housing in Borlänge as soon as possible. After we receive your application and your letter of admission we will activate your account and send you an e-mail with the log-in information you will need to apply to specific housing options.
How to apply for housing?
International students apply for housing using the same webpages as Swedish students and all the information is listed in Swedish. That is why we have put together a handy Quick Reference Guide and FAQ. Of course if you have any questions or need some help please contact us. Please note that you can only apply for a maximum of three rooms at a time.
What are queue points and how do they affect me?
As most public housing companies in Sweden, Tunabyggen awards “köpoäng” (queue points) for applicants based on how long they have been looking for housing through Tunabyggen. The sooner you fill out the initial application, the sooner you start collecting these points.
Queue points are used to determine who gets housing. When a room becomes available anyone with a valid account can apply for this room during a brief period of time. When the final date to apply has passed, the person with the highest number of queue points is typically offered the room first.
Payment on arrival
As soon as you know your arrival date please contact us so we can arrange for you to receive your keys. Please note that our offices are normally only open during business hours so it is very important that you contact us as soon as you know your planned arrival date and time so we can ensure that you get your keys as soon as possible. A security deposit of 2500 SEK is paid in our office when you arrive. This must be paid by credit card or through bank transfer – cash is not accepted. When you are ready to leave your room we will check to make sure it is in the same condition as when you moved in and transfer the deposit back to your credit card.
